Captain Greg and volunteers of Learn 2 Fish With Us shared their passion for fishing with the seventh graders of Webster Stanley Middle School which is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The afternoon of May 6th, one hundred twenty-four seventh graders were split into two groups where they first learned the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing through Captain Greg’s Fishing Basics seminar. Fishing Basics teaches them; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, how to cast, different fishing presentations, fish identification, knots, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species, keeping a fishing log and so much more. Over sixty percent of the students had never fished before so they were excited to go fishing!! After the Fishing Basics seminar, the seventh graders walked across the street to Menominee Park and fished Millers Bay where they caught crappie, bluegill and perch were caught.
After fishing each seventh grader received a NPAA Future Pro shirt and Shakespeare My Fishing Journal thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association.
This was Learn 2 Fish With Us first in school fishing clinic since the inception of COVID. Learn 2 Fish With Us has scheduled many more clinics in the month of May and will work with nearly one thousand youth.
