Learn 2 Fish With Us and NPAA Members Greg and Karen Karch, Rick and Mark hosted a fishing clinic during the Snooze In The Zoo event. Snooze In The Zoo is an event where families camp overnight in the Menominee Park Zoo, which is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This fishing part of this event was held on Saturday afternoon, June 9th.
Fifty youth along with their parents attended the event, which started out with families learning the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing through Learn 2 Fish With Us Fishing Basics seminar. Campers learned; safety while fishing, how, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, casting, setting the hook, simple fishing presentations, knots, live and artificial bait, fish identification, aquatic invasive species, catch and release and so much more. After the seminar, the group was split up into two smaller groups where half went fishing and the other half went on a scavenger hunt throughout the zoo. After an hour each group rotated. Considering we were fishing in the afternoon, and in September, many fish were caught which included, bluegill, pumpkinseed and perch. Many youth caught there first fish and were very excited!!
Each youth received a fully rigged fishing combo, NPAA Future Pro shirt and Go Fishing educational book thanks to our great sponsors!! When the youth learned they would be keeping the fishing combo they fished with, they were very excited and looked forward to future fishing trips.
