Captain Greg, Dori and volunteers of Learn 2 Fish With Us shared their passion for fishing with Girl Scouts of Ashwaubenon during Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend. This event, was held at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, where brownies and girl scouts learned the skills and equipment needed to fish through the Learn 2 Fish With Us Fishing Basics seminar. Fishing Basics teaches; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, how to cast, different fishing presentations, fish identification, knots, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species, keeping a fishing log and so much more.
Once the seminar was completed, it was time to go fishing. There was a steady rain, but that did not stop the scouts from going fishing, as they were so pumped to get out and use their newly learned skills, along with their fully rigged fishing combo they were given. Thanks to our Learn 2 Fish With Us sponsors, each youth received a fully rigged fishing combo. Each girl also received a Future Pro shirt and fishing educational book.
While fishing scouts caught Largemouth Bass and some dandy gills. It was so cute seeing the scouts in their boots and rain coats. Lisa Banker the scout organizer, said many of the scouts never fished and are so looking forward to getting out fishing this summer. Another successful event!!
