From Ice to Inspiration: A Full Day of Fishing Education

The day kicked off bright and early with Captain Greg taking a group of Learn 2 Fish With Us volunteers out on the ice. Conditions were great, the bite was active, and the group enjoyed a successful morning catching plenty of bluegills. It was the perfect way to start a day centered on sharing the passion for fishing and giving back through education.

That same enthusiasm carried into the evening as Captain Greg wrapped up the day by hosting a Fishing Basics program for the Boys & Girls Brigade of Neenah. The 6th and 7th grade youth learned the skills and equipment needed to begin their fishing journey, along with some of the specific skills required for ice fishing. From understanding basic gear to learning how techniques can transfer between ice fishing and open water fishing, the program gave them a strong foundation to build on.

The youth were fully engaged throughout the program and asked some great questions, showing just how excited they were to learn more about fishing. Each participant received a Learn 2 Fish With Us fishing shirt and a fishing education book that included all the skills and equipment covered during the program, plus a lot of additional fishing knowledge they can reference in the future.

By the end of the session, the youth shared how excited they were to put what they learned into action—both on the ice this winter and on open water when the seasons change.

The Boys & Girls Brigade of Neenah mission is “to provide youth the opportunity and space to learn, grow, play, explore, and create lifelong memories while developing the necessary skills to overcome challenges.” Their motto, “Be Your Best,” strongly aligns with what Learn 2 Fish With Us strives to instill in every youth we work with. We’re proud to support organizations that empower young people and help them gain confidence, skills, and lifelong memories—one fishing lesson at a time
