The evening of June 25th, Learn 2 Fish With Us hosted a Fishing Program for Big Brothers Big Sisters at the Outagamie Conservation Club.
The program began with a Fishing Basics seminar where youth learned the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing, including casting, fishing equipment, bait selection, and other fundamental techniques. After the seminar, everyone headed to the club’s stocked pond for hands-on fishing.
The results were incredible! In previous years, the group fished at Appleton Memorial Park and would typically catch only about five fish as a group. This year, thanks to the excellent fishing at the stocked pond, most of the youth caught five fish each, creating an exciting and memorable experience for everyone.
Earlier that day, Captain Greg was also busy on the water, taking two youth and a program coordinator from the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club fishing on Lake Winnebago. The group caught walleye, white bass, and freshwater drum (sheepshead) while both trolling and jigging. The outing was part of the annual fishing event hosted by Pioneer Marina and Spellman’s Marina for the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club. This year marked the 10th anniversary of this special event.
To help the youth continue their fishing adventures, Learn 2 Fish With Us and our generous sponsors provided each participant with a fishing combo, Youth Certified Angler T-shirt, and a fishing education book to take home.
A huge thank you to our volunteers, partners, and sponsors for helping make June 25th another successful day of introducing youth to the lifelong sport of fishing! 🎣
