Average Age Of A PanFish – Where you close?

I am on Wisconsin’s Panfish Stakeholder group and when we had our first meeting in September I was talking to a fish biologist and asked for information on the average size for a panfish. This is an average size for a panfish.  Some lakes will grow panfish quicker while others the panfish growth rate may be slower. Where you close when you determined a panfish age?????

Lake Winnebago Perch Fishing is HOT!!

IMG_2625

This weekend I had Ted Peck in my boat to write a Lake Winnebago perch fishing article.  We did not hit the water until 1 PM but in two hours we had a nice mess of fish.  The perch ranged from 9 to 11 inches.  We were dead sticking using crawlers abd were hanging just of the reef edges.  I will be working on getting How To Video’s on perch fishing.

2013 Door County Walleyes

This past week, just like the last thirteen years Karen and I have been fishing for the walleye of our dreams.  My buddies had fished the week before and only had three fish with the largest being a 29.  On Thursday, just like in the past the board went back and a battle was on.  I could see the fish down ten feet and it looked like a dandy.  When I went to net the fish I knew it was big.  It was not until I pulled the net in and laid the fish in the bottom of the boat, did I realize how big.  We started shooting pictures and after a couple pictures this fish seemed heavier then other big walleye from the past.  The walleye went thirty-three inches and weighed a little over thirteen pounds!! I thank the fish gods for allowing this fish to bite one of my lines.  We had a great week, catching a few over thirty.  Karen caught her largest at 31.25 and is was the prettiest walleye I have seen.  We pulled harnesses all week and the best were Northland Fishing Tackle and BigEye Custom Lures blades pulled behind Off Shore boards and Guppy weights.

Perch Fishing continues to be good on Lake Winnebago

This morning I was perch fishing with my buddy Randy.  Started out slow but after the 5th spot we got into them.  Also found a secondary spot that we also did well.  We kept 18 for a meal and the rest went back.  The largest was over 12 inches and it took the bait deep so we had to keep it.

Greg Karch will be part of Wisconsin’s DNR Panfish Stakeholder Group

The Wisconsin DNR has asked me to be part of the Panfish Stakeholder Group which will help in establishing a management plan for panfish.  This will include helping to set panfish goals and objectives.  They asked me to be part of the group due to my efforts in promoting fishing to the youth and families.  Our first meeting will be in September.  Facebook friends message me your feedback and ideas.  Thanks!!!

Perch fishing is heating up on Lake Winnebago!!!

Traded in the walleye fishing equipment for the perch fishing equipment and got some dandies.  Perch fishing is starting to heat up on Bago!!!  We were fishing just off the reefs in about 14 feet of water and dead sticking.  Red worms by far was the best bait with pieces of crawler not far behind.
