Third Graders From Westside Elementary Learn 2 Fish Virtually

Learn 2 Fish With Us teamed up with PHYX Productions and Head 2 Head Fishing to livestream a Fishing Clinic into five third grade classes at Westside Elementary, which is located in Kimberly, Wisconsin.  The virtual Fishing Clinic took place the afternoon of May 7th.  Learn 2 Fish With Us has presented in-person fishing clinics for Westside Elementary for the last ten years, and during the planning stages for this year’s fishing clinic we were notified that Kimberly School District only allowed teachers on school grounds.  So, Executive Director/Angler Educator Greg Karch worked with PHYX Productions to see about livestreaming their Fishing Basics seminar into Westside.  PHYX Productions studio supplied the technology and equipment to host the Fishing Clinic, which allowed Westside and Learn 2 Fish With Us to see each other, along with being able to communicate back and forth, as if Captain Greg was at Westside!!  Captain Greg and Westside Elementary were very happy with the success of their first virtual Fishing Clinic.

Fishing Basics seminar teaches students about the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing; such as, safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, how to cast safely and accurately, knots, fish identification, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species, logging fishing trips, conservation and so much more.  After the seminar, students had time to ask questions such as: ‘Captain Greg how old are you??’, ‘What is the biggest fish you caught?’, ‘How long have you been fishing?’ and so many more.

At the end of the virtual fishing clinic students learned they would receive a NPAA Future Angler shirt along with a fishing educational book thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association and the Future Angler Foundation and were the third graders excited!!
