Every beginner angler should know how to tie several different types of fishing knots before heading out on the water. Check out these step-by-step tutorials to learn the different ways you can tie a fishing knot.
Palomar Knot
Step 1: Push your line through the eye of your hook and then push it back to form a loop. You should be working with a 6-inch doubled line.
Step 2: Tie a loose overhand knot while letting your hook hang loose.
Step 3: Pass the loop of the line completely over your hook.
Step 4: Tighten your line by pulling and remember to trim off any excess line.

Trilene Knot
Step 1: Pass the end of your working line through the hook eye two times to create a double loop.
Step 2: Wrap your working end around the standing line about five or six times.
Step 3: Pass the working end of your line through the double loop you created at the hook eye.
Step 4: Wet the knot and tighten it against the eye of the hook.
Improved Clinch Knot
Step 1: Pass the line through the end of your hook and start wrapping the working end of your line around your standing line about 5 times.
Step 2: Bring the working end of your line back through the first loop and then through the bigger loop that you just made.
Step 3: Wet the knot and then tighten it by pulling on both ends.
