The summer heat didn’t slow down Captain Greg and Karen as they traveled from Oshkosh to Milwaukee to share their passion for fishing with youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. After visiting three clubs yesterday, they wrapped up their Milwaukee tour by hosting Fishing Programs at three more clubs today.
The morning began at the Greenfield Club, making it a special stop for Captain Greg. The club is located just a half mile from where he lived through third grade, bringing back many great childhood memories while introducing a new generation to the sport of fishing.
Following the Fishing Program at Greenfield, Captain Greg and Karen headed to the Allen Field Club, where the youth were eager to learn the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing. From learning about fishing safety and equipment to practicing casting techniques and identifying different fish species, the excitement continued to grow as the students discovered how much fun fishing can be.
Before making their final stop of the day, Captain Greg and Karen visited the Washington Park Urban Ecology Center to deliver a generous donation of fully rigged fishing combos. These fishing cwill be used by Boys & Girls Club youth as they participate in upcoming fishing outings at Washington Park over the next two weeks.
The staff at the Washington Park Urban Ecology Center were excited to receive the donation and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to provide more youth with hands-on fishing experiences. The new fishing equipment will help ensure that every participant has the chance to enjoy time on the water while putting their newly learned skills into practice.
Every youth who participated in the Fishing Programs also received a Learn 2 Fish With Us Youth Certified Angler shirt and a fishing education book. The book allows each participant to review everything they learned during the program and serves as a valuable resource as they continue their fishing journey.
Seeing so many smiling faces, enthusiastic young anglers, and community partners working together is what Learn 2 Fish With Us is all about. We can’t wait to hear the stories and see the photos as these youth head to Washington Park over the coming weeks to catch their first fish!
