On June 9th, Learn 2 Fish With Us hosted a Fishing Program for the Green Lake community at the Green Lake Town Square Community Center. Despite a cloudy start to the day, families and youth were excited to attend and learn more about the sport of fishing.
The morning began with a Fishing Basics seminar where participants learned the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing. Youth were introduced to fishing rods and reels, tackle selection, fish identification, casting techniques, and other important fundamentals that help build confidence on the water.
To help continue their fishing journey, each youth received a fully rigged fishing combo, a Learn 2 Fish With Us Certified Youth Angler shirt, and a fishing education book. These resources provide young anglers with the tools and knowledge needed to continue fishing with family and friends long after the program ends.
Following the educational portion of the event, participants walked to a nearby bay on Green Lake to put their newly learned skills into action. The fishing was productive, with youth catching both bass and bluegills throughout the outing. Smiles, excitement, and plenty of fish made for a memorable experience for everyone involved.
A special thank you goes out to all of the volunteers who helped make the event both fun and safe for the youth and families in attendance. Their willingness to share their time and assist young anglers played a major role in the success of the program. Last week, Captain Greg made a post on a Green Lake community Facebook page seeking volunteers for the event. In less than 24 hours, five volunteers stepped forward to help. The overwhelming community support demonstrates how passionate local residents are about helping introduce the next generation to the outdoors.
Programs like these continue to fulfill the mission of Learn 2 Fish With Us by introducing youth and families to fishing while providing the education and equipment necessary for long-term success in the outdoors.
Another successful Fishing Program is in the books!
The next Learn 2 Fish With Us Fishing Program will take place on June 14th in De Pere, Wisconsin, where Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to learn the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing and enjoy a day on the water.
We would like to thank all the youth, families, volunteers, and supporters who helped make this Green Lake Fishing Program a success. We look forward to creating more fishing memories with the next generation of anglers throughout Wisconsin.
