Scouts Have An Evening Of Catching Fish!!

Captain Greg and volunteers of Learn 2 Fish With Us shared their passion for fishing with the cub scouts of Oshkosh.  The fishing clinic took place the evening of May 13th at Winnebago County Park located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  It was the perfect night to host the fishing clinic as it was sunny and warm, maybe even the best evening of 2021!!

The evening started out with the scouts learning the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing through Captain Greg’s Fishing Basics seminar.  Fishing Basics teaches; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, how to cast, different fishing presentations, fish identification, knots, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species, keeping a fishing log and so much more.  After the Fishing Basics seminar, scouts walked to the pond which was a catch and release.  Due to this being a catch and release pond, it did not take long for the scouts to start catching fish!!  Scouts caught Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Warmouth and Crappies!!  So many scouts look forward to coming back fishing!!  Captain Greg would love to see more fishing locations that are catch and release to allow youth and families to be able to catch fish!!

Each youth was excited as they received a fishing combo thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association.  Learn 2 Fish With Us provided fishing tackle and a Shakespeare My Fishing Journal to each of the scouts.

Woodland Elementary Thanks Captain Greg

Third Graders From Westside Elementary Learn 2 Fish Virtually

Learn 2 Fish With Us teamed up with PHYX Productions and Head 2 Head Fishing to livestream a Fishing Clinic into five third grade classes at Westside Elementary, which is located in Kimberly, Wisconsin.  The virtual Fishing Clinic took place the afternoon of May 7th.  Learn 2 Fish With Us has presented in-person fishing clinics for Westside Elementary for the last ten years, and during the planning stages for this year’s fishing clinic we were notified that Kimberly School District only allowed teachers on school grounds.  So, Executive Director/Angler Educator Greg Karch worked with PHYX Productions to see about livestreaming their Fishing Basics seminar into Westside.  PHYX Productions studio supplied the technology and equipment to host the Fishing Clinic, which allowed Westside and Learn 2 Fish With Us to see each other, along with being able to communicate back and forth, as if Captain Greg was at Westside!!  Captain Greg and Westside Elementary were very happy with the success of their first virtual Fishing Clinic.

Fishing Basics seminar teaches students about the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing; such as, safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, how to cast safely and accurately, knots, fish identification, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species, logging fishing trips, conservation and so much more.  After the seminar, students had time to ask questions such as: ‘Captain Greg how old are you??’, ‘What is the biggest fish you caught?’, ‘How long have you been fishing?’ and so many more.

At the end of the virtual fishing clinic students learned they would receive a NPAA Future Angler shirt along with a fishing educational book thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association and the Future Angler Foundation and were the third graders excited!!
