It may have been a hot day, but so was the fishing!! On Saturday, June 5th, we hosted a fishing clinic for girl scouts of Northeast Wisconsin. The fishing clinic was held at Marion Park, which is located Marion, Wisconsin. The morning started out with Captain Greg educating the girl scouts on the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing. After the seminar, girl scouts split up into three groups, where they attended three hands on educational stations. The first station, was knot tying, where girl scouts tied a Palomar and Clinch knot. The second station, girl scouts learned how to cast safely and accurately. The final station was fish identification along with live and artificial bait. Girl scouts enjoyed being able to see and touch the live bait. Once the girl scouts rotated through the educational stations, it was time for them to go fishing!! Girl scouts caught a lot of fish which included bluegills, perch and bass. The fish where close to shore, so, the scouts enjoyed seeing all the fish swimming around.
Girl scouts were excited to learn that each of them would receive a fishing combo, NPAA Future Angler shirt thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association and Future Angler Foundation. Thanks to The Reel Shot for providing the bait for all our fishing clinics.

Fishing was one of the four stations during Outdoors Day. Students, rotated through the fishing station to learn the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing. Through the Fishing Basics seminar, Captain Greg taught them; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, how to cast, different fishing presentations, fish identification, knots, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species, keeping a fishing log and so much more. After the seminar it was time for the students to actually fish. Fishing took place on Round Lake where students caught Bluegill’s and Largemouth Bass. All fish were released to fight another day.

After a long battle the fish was cradled by Captain Greg. Elizabeth said ‘this was her first fish ever and that it is huge!! I will never forget this day’. Besides Elizabeth, many memories were made as ten other youth caught their first fish!! Bluegills and Bass made up the catches. What Captain Greg liked about the pond they fished, was that only youth sixteen under could fish it. The restrictions for the pond also allowed selective harvest for the youth where they could keep one bass and seven bluegills, this so helps protects the resource for the youth!!
