On May 30th, Captain Greg Karch of Learn 2 Fish With Us hosted a fishing program for the Northeast Girl Scouts at Seymour Lake Park in Seymour, Wisconsin. It was a beautiful day filled with learning, excitement, and plenty of smiles.
The morning began bright and early at 9:00 a.m. with a Fishing Basics seminar. During the session, the Girl Scouts learned the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing. Topics included fishing rods and reels, bait selection, casting techniques, fish identification, and safe fishing practices. The scouts were eager to learn and asked many great questions throughout the presentation.
Following the seminar, everyone gathered together for a group photo before heading to the water to put their new skills into action. Before fishing began, each Girl Scout received a fully rigged fishing combo. The excitement quickly grew when they learned they would be able to keep their fishing rods and reels for future fishing adventures with family and friends.
Once the lines hit the water, the action was steady. Bluegills and bass were the primary catches of the day, keeping the scouts busy and engaged. One of the most memorable moments came when a scout showed off her outdoor skills by catching a frog with her bare hands, creating plenty of laughter and excitement among the group.
Throughout the day, smiles could be seen everywhere. Whether it was catching their first fish, learning a new skill, or simply spending time outdoors with friends, the Girl Scouts created memories that will last a lifetime.
Learn 2 Fish With Us is proud to introduce youth and families to the sport of fishing through hands-on educational programs that build confidence, outdoor skills, and a lifelong appreciation for Wisconsin’s natural resources. Watching these young anglers experience the joy of fishing is what our mission is all about.
We would like to thank the Northeast Girl Scouts, volunteers, and supporters who helped make this event a success. We look forward to seeing these new anglers on the water again soon!
