Learn 2 Fish With Us Promotes A Healthy Body And Healthy Mind During The Big Event

Learn 2 Fish With Us and our volunteers educated youth on vital skills needed to begin fishing during The Big Event, which was held Saturday, October 8th at Heritage Hills State Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin.   Captain Greg Karch and his crew taught youth how to cast safely and accurately, fish identification and how to tie a Clinch and Palomar knot.  All skills that are so vital when fishing as a family.   You should of seen and heard the excitement when a youth would catch a Backyard Bass!!

Thanks to Off Shore Tackle Company, National Professional Anglers Association and Future Angler Foundation youth received coolers and Future Pro shirts!!  They were all excited!!

The Big Event is a Fundraiser for Encompass, a non-profit early education care center for children, which promotes a healthy body and healthy mind.  Learn 2 Fish With Us so believes fishing does this for all ages!! 

Kaukauna Fishing Team & Learn 2 Fish With Us Partner To Host Fishing Education During Fox Waterway Cleanup

 

The Kaukauna High School Fishing Team educated youth and families to the fishing skills of casting and tying a Palomar and Clinch knot, during the Fox Waterway Cleanup event.  The Fox Waterway Cleanup  event was held on September 24th, at Thousand Islands, which is located in  Kaukauna, Wisconsin.  Learn 2 Fish With Us borrowed their equipment to the Kaukauna High School Fishing Team so they could provide this great education.  Learn 2 Fish With Us is always looking for groups to partner with, to host fishing education. 

Thanks to  National Professional Anglers Association and Future Angler Foundation youth received Future Pro shirt.

The Fox Waterway Cleanup is held each fall to cleanup all around the Fox River waterway.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another Great Way To Help Learn 2 Fish With Us

If you are looking for ways to help Learn 2 Fish With Us, but can’t find the time to make it to an event.  No problem!!  Contact Captain Greg, as there are many ways you can help. For many big events, Captain Greg needs help rigging fishing combos with a hook, sinker and bobber.  These fishing combos are given to the youth to use at the event and to then take home after the event.  Captain Greg, will drop off everything needed to accomplish the task.  You will have as long as you need, and once completed, Captain Greg will pick up.  This is a great way to volunteer around your busy schedule.

Just recently Bill and his dad Dennis, assisted by rigging fifty fishing combos and placing one thousand Learn 2 Fish With Us labels on our fishing educational book.

Captain Greg Helps On DNR Lake Winnebago Trawler

Today Captain Greg of Learn 2 Fish With Us was on the Wisconsin DNR trawler where they were doing a study on the Lake Winnebago young of the year.  The day started of bright and early where Captain Greg met the Wisconsin DNR Crew and the other three volunteers helping out.  Today’s mission was to trawl in nine different areas.  A trawl consisted of putting the net into the water and then pulling for around five minutes.  After five minutes the net was pulled up and dumped on a counting table.  First the adult walleye, sauger, white bass, perch, crappie, bluegills and catfish were put into a tank where they were measured, recorded and released.  Next carp, quillback and suckers were counted, recorded and released.  The final step was to count the young of the year where each species was counted and recorded.  Looks like a lot of trout perch are in the system.  What a fun and knowledgeable experience!!

Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club Experience Fishing

This past weekend Learn Fish With Us, Captain Greg, was a helper on a boat that took youth from the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club.  Art and Beth organized a fishing event for the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club that had boat captains from across Oshkosh taking the youth out fishing and many fish were caught!!  This was the sixth year this fishing event has taken place.  After fishing, Captain Greg, hosted a casting contest using Backyard Bass and you should have seen all the smiles.  Lunch was served which included hot dogs, chips, watermelon, cookies and more!!

Each youth went home with a mini tackle box with tackle and a Future Pro shirt.   

Learn 2 Fish With Us Host Fortieth Fishing Clinic of 2022

Captain Greg of Learn 2 Fish With Us held his fortieth fishing clinic of 2022, during Ojibwa’s Bowhunter Youth Day, which was held in New Berlin, Wisconsin on Saturday July 30th.  Over two hundred youth attended the event.

Learn 2 Fish With Us had a fishing educational booth at the Ojibwa Youth Day, which taught youth how to cast safely and accurately, tie a Palomar and Clinch knot, fish identification, safety while on the water and Aquatic Invasive Species.  During the day you heard the youth yelling, ‘got another’, or missed one while fishing for backyard bass.  Besides the youth, adults also liked learning the how to tie the different knots. 

Huge thanks to the Ojibwa’s Bow Hunters for helping in our fishing educational booth.  After the youth attended all the hands on stations, they received a NPAA Future Pro shirt and Shakespeare fishing educational book thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association and Learn 2 Fish With Us. Foundation.

Learn 2 Fish With Us Teaches Fishing At High Cliff State Park

Learn 2 Fish With Us held a fishing clinic for the public at High Cliff State Park, which was located in Sherwood, Wisconsin on Saturday, July 16th.  The day started out with Captain Greg presenting his Fishing Basics seminar which taught attendees the equipment and skills needed to begin fishing.  Fishing Basic teaches; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, casting, setting the hook, simple fishing presentations, knots, live and artificial bait, fish identification, aquatic invasive species, catch and release and so much more.  After the seminar, each youth received a fully rigged Shakespeare fishing combo, NPAA Future Pro shirt and Shakespeare fishing educational book thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association, Future Angler Foundation and Learn 2 Fish With Us.

After the Fishing Basics seminar, families went fishing in the stocked Butterfly ponds utilizing their newly rigged fishing combo.  Many fish were caught and you could hear ‘got another one’ most of the morning.

Captain Greg would like to thank all the great Learn 2 Fish With Us volunteers that helped at the event!!  These volunteers allow for our events to go smoothly and be safe.

 

Learn 2 Fish With Us Host Second YMCA Fish Camp Of 2022

Learn 2 Fish With Us held Fish Camp at Heartland YMCA which is located in Kimberly, Wisconsin.  Fish Camp took place on Wednesday, July 6th and the Learn 2 Fish With Us crew educated over one hundred campers.  During Fish Camp, Captain Greg hosted three different sessions.  Session one was for kindergarten through first grade, and these campers learned how to cast safely and accurately use Shakespeare’s Mickey Mouse and Barbie fishing combos while catching Backyard Bass, how to identify fish by drawing pictures of the fish that they liked, and finally Learn 2 Fish With Us volunteer Dave read ‘Walter The Wily Walleye’ to the campers.

The second session, was for campers that were in second through fourth grades and the third session was for campers in fifth through eighth grades.  These two sessions Captain Greg presented his Fishing Basics seminar which taught campers on the equipment and skills needed to begin fishing.  Fishing Basic teaches; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, casting, setting the hook, simple fishing presentations, knots, live and artificial bait, fish identification, aquatic invasive species, catch and release and so much more.

All campers said they so look forward to utilizing their fishing skills next time they get out fishing, which hopefully will be soon.   Each youth received a fishing goodie, NPAA Future Pro shirt and Shakespeare fishing educational book thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association, Future Angler Foundation and Learn 2 Fish With Us.

Winnebago Walleye Series Youth Have A Afternoon Of Fishing Fun!!

On Sunday afternoon, June 26th, Captain Greg Karch, Winnebago Walleye Series and Learn 2 Fish With Us volunteers taught youth about the skills and equipment needed to begin fishing.  This event was held at Pipe Park which is located in Malone, Wisconsin.  The afternoon started out with Captain Greg presenting his Fishing Basics seminar where they learned; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, simple fishing presentations, live and artificial bait, aquatic invasive species and so much more.  After the seminar, youth were split up into three groups where they attended fishing educational stations.  Station one youth learned how to cast safely and accurately. Station two, youth learned how to tie a Clinch and Palomar knot.  Station three was fish identification where youth learned how to identify the different fish from panfish to game fish.

This was Learn 2 Fish With Us first time partnering with the Winnebago Walleye Series which has a fun time for the families the day of their fishing tourney.

Thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association, Future Angler Foundation and Learn 2 Fish With Us each youth received a fishing combo, NPAA Future Pro shirt, a mini tackle box with tackle along with a fishing educational book.

 

Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club Go Fishing!!

Learn 2 Fish With Us held a fishing clinic for the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club at Menominee Park in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on June 23rd.  The day started out with Captain Greg presenting his Fishing Basics seminar which teaches attendees on the equipment and skills needed to begin fishing.  Fishing Basic teaches; safety while fishing, spin cast and spinning fishing combos, casting, setting the hook, simple fishing presentations, knots, live and artificial bait, fish identification, aquatic invasive species, catch and release and so much more.  After the seminar, each youth was given a fully rigged fishing combo, NPAA Future Pro shirt and Shakespeare fishing educational book thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association, Future Angler Foundation and Learn 2 Fish With Us.

Next part of the fishing clinic was to go fishing.  Youth were able to utilize their newly rigged fishing combo, where there were many smiles, due to their success of casting or setting the hook, and of course catching a fish!!  The main catch was bluegills and perch.  The staff from Boys & Girls Club said ‘this will be a great activity for the kids during the summer and with the gear they received, all they will need is bait’.  The Boys & Girls Club plans on taking kids to the park over the summer to do some fishing.
